A Ngāti Tūwharetoa partnership, the Tūwharetoa Settlement Trust (TST) and five other Tūwharetoa entities, have finalised the purchase of 8,500 hectares of Crown land in the central North Island. This includes around 4,000 hectares of timber plantations.

As we reported at our Annual General Meeting in December of last year, one of the key tasks identified for completion by the Tūwharetoa Settlement Trust was the acquisition of the Corrections land at Hautu and Rangipō. To complete this purchase, we have established a partnership of Tūwharetoa entities to raise the required funds. Also important to note is that these entities have structured an arrangement for hapū participation and long term ownership.
